Today we woke up to big, blue, empty skies and already increasing temperature. We got to the local bus and got off next to the ancient church. We walked down a winding street that goes right into lake Orta. We stood at the end of the jetty and jumped and waved to call over the ferry which goes around the lake. We got off at the town of Orta into a beautiful square. We explored the small shops and had a coffee in the square watching a muscovie (I think that's how it's spelt) duck walking up the cobbled street with her ducklings. Then, we took another, smaller ferry to the island in the middle of the lake. It was full of buildings and a beautiful, ornate church. We walked the perimeter of the island and had lunch by the clear water. We took the ferry back and had amazing ice creams of all flavours from mango to lion bar(!) under the wisteria. We then carried on along the narrow streets up to a crazy golf course, but unfortunately it was closed. We decided to take a taxi to the campsite so we walked to a place where the taxi could pick us up. Luckily, this place happened to be the Crespi Hotel with two Michelin stars!!! We ordered soft drinks while we were waiting and were given those along with assorted nuts, giant olives and chunks of parmesan. The taximan pulled up in his Mercedes and we had a very smooth drive to the campsite also with very smooth music!! We then unpacked and Rory and Dad went swimming, Mum read her book and I attempted to draw to idyllic church up the road. We are now at the bar playing cards in the sun.
