It has only taken five days of skiing, but I (Sjane) have finally mastered the art of sliding down mountains on the white stuff. Marc says the term 'mastered' is loosely used in this context; however when comparing day one to day five I think it fits.
Day one began with a group lesson with a retiree 'Dave', he works the ski seasons and has decided to retire in Whistler. His daughter and son are professional extreme skiers and well they would have had to learn from someone - he was a legend. Marc got to experience my company days two to five (lucky him).
Poor Marc has tolerated days of green runs, "warm ups" which have taken all day, slow turns and the occasional small tantrum (maybe one or two, no more; it's all a matter of perspective). Yesterday (day four), we accidentally found ourselves down a blue run, which lead to today's (day five) blue run day. Can I just add in here that some green runs are like blue runs on other mountains, so the fact I was doing blue runs was kind of the equivalent of black runs in Australia. We managed to hit up some lovely runs at Whistler and Blackcomb including summit runs on both mountains. The weather was impeccable today - a nice frosty chill to keep the snow lush, stunning blue skies leading to unlimited visibility and a fresh layer of powder to top it all off.
So all in all perfect winter snow skiing all round. No injuries this time and a bunch of fun! We even had a little visitor in the form of a bird alighting on top of our ski poles, heads and hands while waiting in line for a lift... see photos! Even the birds are friendly around here!
A massive thanks to Hollie and Monica and Ian who sponsored our lift passes and hot chocolates to help keep our energy up (and just because they taste good). This was the first of our sponsored wedding-gift experiences for The 2015 Plan.
