Within moments of arrival we found ourselves on the back of a moped, at 5am we wizzed through the streets ending up at Shayi Phuda Hotel a charming guesthouse formally a prison, we choose our cell, maybe the only time in history a person paid to be in prison for a night! Character oozed from the walls and after a quick nap we were on our bikes and on the road. It was at this moment that we were convinced that bicycle travel is the best way to see anywhere. Migalaba to everyone and them in return. To cycle through a slum and have everyone, man, woman and child with beaming smiles, big hellos and high fives is an experience to humble anyone, when a child of 5 flying a kite on the local dump, disheveled and dirty stops turns and runs in your direction for a high five your heart leaps and your faith in humanity is restored. It was a joy like no other. We booked slow boat tickets to Bagan for the following morning and headed to the river for sunset, incredible views and Martin on the floor covered in puppy's was a sight to behold! Heading back to the prison we stopped at the most local restaurant we could find, with not a word of English they showed us the food, we choose and we sat, within moments and with the entire restaurant fixated on us we soon had our table completely covered in every dish they had on offer, we soon realised that our presence was a chance for them to show us their kind nature, incredible hospitality and joyous culture, we ate heartily and paid less than a 10th of any meal we had previously eaten, we left to almost a round of applause. A truly great day, a day we came in search of and a day we never expected, Myanmar we are in love!
