Graceland....WOW, an excellent tour. The pictures don't do it any justice whatsoever. Unfortunately they don't allow flash photography inside any of the buildings or museums, so just about every picture was blurry and out of focus. Besides that, it was amazing. A really great insight into who Elvis was and how he lived his life. We'd recommend it to anybody.
Our next stop was the STAX Museum of American Soul Music. Home to recording artists such as Otis Reading, The Staple Singers and Isaac Hayes. The museum was a little heavy on the history and light on the artifacts, subsequently it didn't fair as well with us as Graceland. However, we had a great experience as we left the gift shop. We met and chatted with Charles "Skip" Pitts. Who?.....you ask. Skip Pitts was the guitarist on the theme tune for the movie "SHAFT". He was in the gift shop buying gifts for Isaac Hayes. He was a really lovely guy, very friendly and chatty.....it made the whole museum trip worthwhile for us after all.
Our overall impression of Memphis....a great place to visit. We definitely intend to come back again for a longer visit. Lots to do and see and the people are very friendly.
So onward to Nashville. Tonight we are staying close to Opryland (whatever that comprises of, not sure as we got here after dark). Looking forward to getting intimate with the stars of the past (and maybe a few of the present) at the Country Music Hall of Fame tomorrow.
