Well I have just logged on to write this and seen that my last blog made 'blog of the week' - something about getting lost up a mountain must be a bit special (needs!).
So I really thought I would end up with small fry, big city syndrome but its turning out to actually be a lot easier to navigate as log as a) I have a map and b) don't use public transport!
So first day in Melbourne and I had no one else in my dorm room so that was nice to have a quiet room for a change. I went for a look around in the morning and walked all the way round the city to try and work out where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. I then spent the afternoon on the neighbours tour which was fun. I saw them shooting a scene on the street with Lynne Scully, Susan Kenedy, Summer and Andrew. Susan was wearing a green jumper and Lynne was driving away - it will be shown in about 4 months so i must make an entry in my diary to start watching it around then. Unfortunately we couldnt actually go up the street for 'health and safety' reasons - funny that everywhere else they dont seem to care much for health and safety apart from on a street with a few cars on? Following that we watched the episode of neighbours where Harold disappeared - first shown in 1992 and it was the calmest sea I have ever seen, but still he got washed away! Then we met up with one of the cast members, Ringo! He was quite chatty actually and a nice guy so that was a bonus.
I then went to the free fashion show which is on for l'oreal melbourne fashion festival which was on at federation square, it had a ballet theme which was nice so got to see a bit of ballet dancing. After a quick shower I was out again to see hairspray the musical! It was really really really good, and really funny - it was just as good as the film! I loved it!
Unsuprisingly after a jam packed day and a lot of map reading I was shattered and slept in til 9.30am, which for me is about 3 hours worth of a lie in! So a late start, but still I got to have another wander around and then went to the motion picture museum (the gift shop was highly disappointing) and learnt quite a bit about the history of film - geeeeeeeeek!
I have been missing a bus tour the past 2 days so I went on the free Melbourne tourist bus for a look around the city. I got to see the botanical gardens which I would have liked a walk around but I was scared to get off the bus and not find my way back so I literally just sat on the bus the whole 90 minute tour!
I am loving being a tourist, I love how inappropriate you can be e.g. take photos of the most ridiculous things e.g. road signs, go up really big esculators just for a laugh and ask really silly questions to people without looking a bit weird!
I am off now to try and beg, borrow or steal a ticket for Mary Poppins. It is fully booked but I asked at the box office and they said if I turn up there might be a spare ticket if someone returns one so fingers crossed that happens!
busy busy busy!
