Hey again...lots of catching up today. Sam here again...
Friday: Easter Friday and no sign of any bunnies yet so we headed to Darling Harbour to take a stroll around the Chinese Gardens. But...they were closed as it was Good Friday. So we had to have a small rethink and instead headed over to watch some of the Hoopla Festival. We watched a man stick a sword down his throat (not sensible) and also watch Ernest the not very good. Bless him. He first of all made some man strap a bowl to his head and try to catch water balloons in it. But the balloons bursted in his catapault before they'd even travelled anywhere, so it was somewhat disappointing. Then he got the same guy to lie behind a very small ramp. While he set fire to the back of a remote control car (on the special fire stick things) and then drove the car over the ramp and over the guy...but first he paused to take off his silly hat and to tell his audience that he is a stunt man, that he loves his job and that for a comedy show like his he reckons its worth $10 per family at least. So please donate after the show. I think $10 was slightly optimistic lol. But anyway, he didn't set fire to the guy or himself so I didn't donate $10. Next time. Next we headed over to the Maritime Museum and looked round the Museum. Saw the endevour from the outside (Amy's description, it looks just like a pirate's ship...no it wasn't used in Pirates of the Caribbean). We spent a while looking around though and learning about all Australia's maritime history. We also did a test to see how good we were at identifying objects from sound - through a submarine's sonar system. I got up to the level of sub-lieutenant, which I was pretty pleased with. Just salute next time you see me, that'll be fine.
After the museum we explored a bit more of the hoopla festival, the good bit this time lol. We watched some trapeze acts, one with a cat and mouse which was really funny. they chased each other round and danced a bit and then did some tricks too. The best one was a pretend husband/wife team, she came out craching a whip and then they performed various catches and balances on a rope together. But they were kind of telling a story too. Really good...especially since it was free too! And they didn't suggest any valuation on the performance lol. Pretty much it for Friday.
Saturday: We went to The Rocks, the oldest part of Sydney pretty much, where the first settlers started settling. We went around the market, which was really nice and pretty expensive too! We went to The rocks museum and wandered around learning a little about the history of the area. All good fun. Next we saw rock being handmade in a sweet shop so we stopped to watch. It was fairly impressive as its huge for a start and they gradually stretch it out (we saw a bit of rock being made with the opera house in the centre). We also got to taste it, thumbs up!
After this we trotted up to the Harbour Bridge and climbed up one of the bridge pylons. It offers a very good view of the city. Not quite so good as the bridge climb, but that is also really expensive so it was the next best thing. It was completed on the 19th March 1932...just so u know.
That's all for now, I'm hungry so we'll let you know the rest another day, xxx
