Hey Guys, Amy here,
So sorry thats its been ages since our last post, we've been busy seeing the sights of Sydney, and believe me there's plenty to see.
Ok, so I'm going to go back to the weekend of 4th/5th April. After Sam sent the last message we did actually get an afternoon (or should I say wet 2 hours) on the beach. We thought stuff the weather and so went body boarding in the rain, although at some points it was more like hail. The sea was warm though!!! And we had great fun. Spent the evening in Cheeky Monekys with some very cheap food and some interesting stage games and then went back to our room to meet a weird very drunk german guy.....our new roommate!!! He proceeded to talk rubbish for about half an hour before he passed out on his friends bed.
Got up early to board the bus for.......SURF CAMP!!!!! Spent the morning driving there and picked up supplies on the way (booze and crisps). Arrived at Surf Camp at about lunch time and it was a quick dump your bags, swimming costume on and then start the surf lesson. We were given quite an informative briefing, including how to carry your board (at 34 degrees) so that you look cool and also how to check out hot chicks (not my words) on thw beach without falling over. After being suited up with very soggy wetsuits and covering all the exposed areas with suncream we were ready to "attempt" to look cool and walk to the beach. Us girls were made to walk in pairs carrying two surf boards between us which we thought was rather sexist of them but as we later found out it was very hard to carry one alone. After we got on the beach we had a lesson in how to get up on the board, this was quite funny, especially watching other people in the group and also how to fall off correctly...the starfish position which when you see the pictures you will see demonstrated very well by one of our friends Jo! After numerous attempts (most unsuccesful) we were ready to hit the surf. Cue a mass of people trying to struggle to the sea with very large surf boards.......not good. Eventually we got in and started to surf.....well ish!! To start with we were "helped" by the instructors and then after a while we got to do it by ourselves. We both managed to stand up and surf in to the shore. It'll be better for you all when you see our pictures which we have on dvd. After a while we had floated some way down the beach and there was a disgusting amount of Seaweed on the sea floor, I just about managed to cope although it was mingin! Eventually we were told to get out, which we were quite glad of as we were quite tired by this point. We all showered, laughed at the pictures of each other that were being shown on the tv screen and then chilled out and got to know our new roommates.
The tea they provided was very nice and after this we spent a few hours playing and learning new drinking games with the people from our bus. One horse racing game is especially good so I'll be teaching everyone (well the ones old enough to drink) that when I come home. Our bus driver got very drunk and was very funny and there are some really funny pictures of her. We were very glad of the clocks going back as we got an extra hour in bed....especially since we had to get up at 6.
The next day we spent many hours on the bus, watched two films, pretty impressive for me!!! Hope your impressed Bella, especially seeing as I watched one the day before too!!! Eventually we arrived in Syndey, although after seeing the sign for Sydney it was still quite a distance before we saw the harbour bridge. Our driver pulled over just before the bridge and drove down underneath it for us to take some happy snaps of the bridge and the opera house. She also gave us a very informative tour of Sydney on the way in.
We got to our hostel and found that we'd been upgraded to a twin room from a dorm so we were very chuffed. In the evening we went out for free food and beer with the guys from the bus and then headed to a bar underneath one of the hostels for some more beer and some dancing. All went well until we got kicked out at 2am (dont worry we weren;t being naughty it was shutting) and I decided that I knew the way back to the hostel (I didnt). Maybe I would have done if I were sober but being very drunk I had no idea (many people know about my lack of sense of dircetion then drunk). So after wandering around for quite some time we eventualkly made it home.
The next day we met up with two girls who Sam'd met on her Asia tour and they gave us a tour of Circular Quay and the rocks area. We wandered around for a bit, saw the bridge and the opera house again up close. Wandered onto the bridge and looked at the pylon climb but seeing as the other two had already done it we left it for another day. Sam got a Copenhagen Ice Cream milkshake on the way down and we headed round the opera house and into the botanical gardens. Had a nice wander round and headed back to the hostel for tea. Had an early night as we were heading to Newcastle the next day. Thats all from me for now. Sam is currently writing about what we;ve done since then so read that one too.
Love to all xx
