We're back in Vancouver (for the second time) which was the finish point for our Rocky Mountaineer train journey. We loved, loved, loved the train - Bill's trip highlight so far. We did the train trip on the recommendation of friends - thank you Robyn and Neale, Wendy and Dave!!
Impressions of Vancouver;
- A modern city with really interesting buildings
- A picturesque harbour which is very busy - with cruise ships, freighters, tourist helicopter flights, seaplanes taking off and landing, traffic and train bridges. There's lots happening!
- As with most Canadian towns and cities we've seen Vancouver has great recycling facilities including in hotels, gorgeous street floral arrangements and interesting sculptures
- Driving seems quite civilised with drivers being very courteous to pedestrians (unlike in Australia and certainly on the Gold Coast)
- Vancouver has city boutique grocers/farmers markets which are aimed at inner city apartment dwellers. But attached to these are bistros that serve really good wholesome meals (think roast dinners and club type meals) with proper crockery and cutlery where you can eat in or take-away. We also found these in Toronto and Montreal. Great idea for both urban dwellers who don't cook and tourists like us who want something simple rather than restaurant food every night!
- A great city for bicyclers particularly Stanley Park which was lovely to cycle around
