Kia Ora from Auckland!
After a 13 and a half hour flight from LAX we arrived on the other side of the world. Quantas is our new fav airline. After getting through customs and getting our tent back form the Bio security lab (they said it was dirty) we checked in at our hostel on the outskirts of Auckland city centre, which is an old Tongan Royal house. Had a well needed nap and set off to explore, we strolled along the harbour which has the bluest water we've ever seen. The city is cool never that busy always friendly and massively multi cultural.
Our first full day we found a french market for brekkie at the end of the road near our hostel, we had lemon tart and ham sarnies. We headed into the city to check out the Sky Tower, which has a Vegas style casino in it. Went to see K Road and Ponsonby the trendy parts of the city, both were quite cool lots of vintage shops and hundreds of Asian take aways. We had a Malaysian curry for lunch and headed back to the hostel for a night out. The nightlife kicks off quite late here so we ended up in the only busy place we could find which was predictably an Irish pub! Good vibe tho, a welsh band playing and a huge samoan barman (who eddie spontaneously hugged which made his night) made for a good night out.
Today we walked away from the city on the coastal path towards the beaches. We walked around 20km just amazed by the views of the smaller islands, blue seas and rugged beaches, pics to follow soon.
Visiting Waiheke Island on Tuesday which if the rest of Auckland is anything to go by will be fantastic!
