Checked out of the met at 930 and headed to see Sanjay the tailor in the Khao San Road again. Good job we choose a tailor the other side of town! Sk train, boat and quick walk from Pier 13 later, the dress wasn't ready….The finished product looked good and we left all smiles. We'd had enough of backpacker-ville so back to the Met and off to the airport.
Air Asia carried us to Krabi and before long we were checking in to Baan Andaman. The temperature was noticeably lower than Bangkok. Phew. Dinner venue was the night market: we checked out the skewer, curry and pad thai stalls and then found cute family run bar for aperitifs. We entertained ourselves with a bar triathlon: pool, connect 4 and dominos whilst supping cheap mojitos.
Back at the market, the old lady selling lean meat skewers had packed up. My backpacker wife suggested that we just get some skewers to take out and eat on the way home. Skewer man didn't know sufficient English to describe the contents of the morsels on offer, but some other customers pointed out the chicken and prawn based dishes. We selected 5: they were promptly immersed in boiling fat to warm them up and handed over in a polythene bag. I assumed my normal role in these situations: chief taster. The fish cakes were good, the battered fish bits and prawns just About OK. Annelise gave up after the fish cake. The next was an inedible crabstick based mush and, finally, the white balls we were told was chicken made a chicken nugget look like fillet steak. I still had my comedy desert to look forward to. Still: dinner cost a pound……
