We have a very pleasant flight with Air New Zealand to Auckland and then a very quick transfer to the flight bound for Nadi on the island of Viti Levu, Fiji.It is at this point that we cross the international date line and totally confuse ourselves, or actually I was mystified and Mike exasperated trying to explain this concept to me.We left Canada on August 3rd at 9pm and after flying for 14 hours we somehow totally lose August 4th and arrive in Fiji at 10 am on August 5th???We had pre booked a transfer to our first hotel called smugglers cove in Nadi.We are only staying here for 1 night as we are sailing out to the Yasawa islands in the morning. We are both pleasantly surprised by the accommodation at smugglers as it has a nice restaurant/bar, swimming pool and beachfront location complete with hammocks! We spent our first day snoozing on the beach, topping up our fast faded LA tans. After watching the sun set over a jug of Fiji gold (the local beer) we had a lovely meal in the restaurant.Fortunately we were staying on a Tuesday night which is one of two nights where the hotel entertain the guests with some local Fijian Fire and Knife dancers. What a fantastic introduction to Fijian hospitality, we really couldn't have asked for more.We had a few more beer and then a pretty early night as we have an early transfer to the harbour.
