Day 92, 93 - Noosa - Monday 16th, Tuesday 17th January 2012
It's like the Kumily Tiger reserve all over again……………I swear, I have never seen rain like this! We woke to the sound of heavy, persistent rain hammering on our tent and the plop sound of our tent leaking. And this is Australia's summer?! It's starting to feel more like home every day.
We packed up our stuff and headed to the camp area to have some breakfast. A good cup of English breakfast tea always does the trick! We sat and chatted with everyone, well shouted over the sound of the rain hitting the canopy and waited for our 11.45am bus to take us back to centre of Noosa and our hostel, Flashpackers, which was to be our home for the next 2 nights. A double room with TV and our own bathroom - yay!!!
We arrived and our hostel was literally like heaven - I swear the shower was the best I'd had in months. It's a really nice place and to make it even better Monday night is free cheese and wine night! With that in mind, we headed into the town and walked around and did a shop before arriving back and eating lots of cheese with red wine and olives - all to the sound of the rain still hammering down outside. What a sophisticated evening!
And the next morning it's still raining. We're getting a little bit worried now as it was roughly this time last year that the Queensland floods hit (we're in Queensland) and it literally hasn't stopped raining for nearly 3 days. Plus we saw a weather warning for the rest of this week on the news today and we're due to go to Fraser Island on Friday. Fingers crossed it will stop in time for that!
We were up bright and early to Skype home (10 hour time difference is a b*****) and made the most of the free breakfast and Wi-Fi.
Noosa is supposed to be gorgeous but the rain is so bad it's hard to even see that far in front of you but we thought we should still explore so we caught the bus down to Hastings Street to have a look around. Within 5 minutes I looked like a drowned rat and had made the mistake of wearing a white t shirt - not a good look when wet unless you are planning on entering a contest in somewhere like cheeky monkeys! We retreated into the Noosa lifesaving club to for a coffee and cake and to watch everyone getting wet on the beach before promptly getting the bus back to the warm and dry retreat of our hostel. We spent the rest of our day planning the rest of our Australia trip and watching films!
