Day 70 -Sydney Christmas day - Sunday 25th December 2011
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Yay it Xmas!! Although, it's got to be said that waking up in a bunk bed in a hot 4 person dorm, with 2 unfriendly and messy strangers isn't quite as Christmassy as we'd hoped. That said, we made the most of it and hastily unwrapped our presents. Adam got me a little skirt, an adapter that splits our headphones so we can listen to Skype calls together and an Australia towel! I got him some of his favourite chocolates, some swear clips, a boomerang and a pair of boardies he had spotted and liked in HK.
Presents done, we showered and had breakfast before excitedly frog marching it down to the Harbour Bridge for our 11.30 climb. Once in and safety briefed, we got changed into our bridge jumpsuits - they are hilarious and you feel like you're getting ready to skydive off the bridge as opposed to climb it!
We started our ascent - the views are amazing and it was the clearest, hottest and bluest day we'd had so far in Sydney; we couldn't believe our luck. We learnt loads of facts about the building of the bridge and took in the view and the sights - you can see literally the whole of Sydney and its suburbs from the bridge. On the way back down, Ad got told off by the guide for being his usual mischievous self - apparently when climbing down one of the ladders he broke 4 out of the 5 rules!
As we were about to head back in we spotted Danny and Nikki - they had been filming our climb! So lovely of them! We, of course, waved and showed off for the camera! The climb was amazing and well worth the money!
Bridge climb finished, we met up at the entrance with Danny and Nikki and got on the bus bound for Bondi beach. Bondi was a sight to behold - it was packed and dotted with hundreds of Christmas hatted, bikini / short clad people!
We grabbed a burger and a beer and then lay on the beach with an obligatory mince pie for a few hours. Whilst snoozing, we were woken by cheers only to look up and see 3 not so wise, naked men running through the crowds on the beach and into the water. It was pretty hilarious!
With the day over, we bussed it back to our hostel and watched a bit of Love Actually before catching up with the family over email and Skype.
