Hey Emily, fascinating blog hun!!!! The pics of the Tongariro Alpine crossing gave me goosebumps, looked way to glacial for my liking but you both looked like you were loving the arctic conditions. I wonder who cleans those isolated toilets way up there, lol. Emily i think you were very sane to leave out the white water rafting it look totally nutty but the pics were spectacular. Keep up the sharp, droll blogs. Love reading them over & over again. xxxxxxxx

Kapiti Island is a wonderful native bird reserve. The northern part of the island has several Maori families living there. You can go and stay there. The rest of the island is a reserve maintained by the Dept. of Conservation who have a ranger and his family living there. Any one can go for day trips but you have to go out on one of a several registered boats and have a DOC permit.Your bags are inspected before you leave on the boat as the island is rodent free. We have been out several times and a friend of ours was a ranger there for a while. The native bird life is wonderful and your Dad would just love it. It is important in Maori history as it was the base for a Maori chief. However, you can safely visit it or stay there! Its a fabulous day trip in the summer as you can either walk aroun d the lower part of the island where most of the bird life is or climb to the top for a fantastic view. There are several old whaling pots along the shore as it also used to be a whaling station when whales were hunted in Cook strait a long time ago.

I'm so glad you made it to the ground safely- can't wait to see the photo's and video! I'ma little bit confused though cos aren't you going to the east as bit BEFORE Auckland? Thought it was that way round. Also, tell Emily that now that she's done a canyon swing and a skydive, what could be worse? So she should do the black water rafting at Waitomo- it'll be a doddle after what she's just done! Also, i would like Em to write a little blog about HER skydive so i know how it felt for her too.Mind you, Stefs parachute sounded a bit dodgy- failed to open- hell, WHAT...? Enjoy the Tongarraro crossing-it'll be wonderful i'm sure. Love you, my brave (and ever so slightly bonkers!) little girls, glad you are having such a FAB & exciting time, love ma xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
