The travels of Karyn and Robert
This is truly a spectacular archaeological site. It dates back from the Greco-Roman times when this area was the centre of trade and commerce. The port was improved by the Romans, and that nice friend of Greece and it seems Turkey, Hadrian was here to build more arches attached by many marble columns, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian (the most decorative). It was hot and dry, very little shade, we were well prepared with hats, water and fruit. We had a private tour, with the same company we used in Istanbul, this time we shared the van with the Priests we met. They are travelling with oral English and Italian, so they have missed a lot of the written information. They enjoyed the day, shouted us Frappe's at the port. Sneaky Fr. Jimmy. The library included the letters to the Ephesians that are included in the Bible. St John spent time here, and his Basilica is near the ruins and the last remaining column of the (7 wonders of the world) Temple of Artemis.
