The travels of Karyn and Robert
Sorry for the delay ... After saying goodbye to Savina and Esther at Venice Marco Polo Airport, it was time to checkin, our check in in Venice yesterday did not work. As Robert was chatting (this is most annoying when the conversation should relate to the important details, after 28 years I haven't been able to suppress the exited flea in the jar) and I was checking the weight of the luggage, how we didn't go over is amazing. What we forgot to check was the boarding pass, Robert's requested exit row seats were not allocated and for the Ghungzhou to Sydney we are sitting at different ends of the plane. A quick dash back to the desk we tried to fix, we were told that as it was with China Southern Air we had to wait until we landed in Ghungzhou. We tried in Paris to get better seats - not able to, at least they are I the middle of the plane, a little respite from the bumps. The leg from Venice to Paris was another short hop, this time we had a longer wait at the airport. The only interesting thing to report was that there is no free wifi, and the free charging station completely drained my iPhone and iPad - not happy. The flight from Paris to ChungZhou was bumpy and long 12 hours - Robert was offered the only exit row seat available and I was left in the milkshake machine seat in the tail 4th last row. Was able to have medicated sleep. Robert returned for the landing, how romantic. The transit stop in Ghungzhou was better planed than our first one, we had summer clothes and knew how to operate the electronic trolleys that offer free charging, this was slow but better than France. We were wiser with our drinks to access the wifi, a 60 yuan ($10) sandwich plate was the cheapest option, the wifi was still dodgy, we tried to email, text the details of our arrival, no reply, we have a number of options, wait and have coffee at Sydney and ring if they didn't get the message, train back to Penrith, or our delightful children will be at the gate, greeting us with open arms. Robert organised the exit row seats in Ghungzhou, this time we are sitting at the very back of the plane between both rear toilets and the rear galley, the exit we are in charge of is the rear door. No extra leg room. These seat are usually reserved for students and boozy football teams, how lucky are we. I tried to tell him ...
