Beachport
Parking up on Julie and Bruce's 3 acres our first stop in SA we settled in quickly. Lotte and Archie soon became friends with grandchildren Callie (6) and Zack (5).
Saturday being a great day at Beachport we headed to Salmon Hole with the kids, Julie and Zoe (Julie and Bruce's youngest daughter). One of the first summer days we have head since before Christmas we had a walk around the rocks and then a quick swim in the cold sea water but spent most of the morning boogie boarding down the sand dunes, Tim and Melrose feeling like kids also having a turn - will we ever grow up! After dinner we all, enjoyed a walk along the 1.5 km jetty second longest wooded jetty in SA.
Sunday we drove to Robe, had fish and chips from the wharf and drove along Long Beach and had a swim for a few hours. It reminded us a bit of Cable Beach without the camels and the nudity. A very pretty and popular town in SA. On returning to Beachport we met Julie Bruce and Zoe at the pub for a free Sunday music session. Anyone who wants to can play music and have the pub support had or their audience. Apparently Casie Chambers is from nearby and use to frequent this Sunday tradition, but unfortunately not for us this weekend.
Monday we were treated to a tour of a well know surfer/ board makers home and board making. Finn who makes Fine Cut Surfboards was a real legend as well as a gentleman. Good at what he does and passionate so passionate latter treated Archie who he noted was a keen surfer to a lesson or wanting anything for payment but to see Archie's face smile as he caught the first wave in. " Mum Finn said I was the best surfer kids he has taught". If Archie ever wants a board we know where to buy one.!!
Tuesday we said goodbye to our hospitable friends Julie and Bruce and know we will miss them but be in touch whenever we are crossing paths again. Onto Mildura taking a night stop to get there.
Unfortunately as we arrived at our free camp on the Mallee Hwy just out of Murrayville (middle of nowhere) we discovered a set of wheels on the bus were not in line, after further investigation Tim found a broken bar on the axle. b***** this could be big job or Tim may be able to fix. So we off loaded the ute and decided to drive the 200km on the Wednesday separately and hope to get to Mildura where there hopefully would be some truck help and fix it.
