And not just because Vietnam continues to be sweltering (this is NOT a complaint; we have Toronto on our weather app and are well aware of our future reality). Da Nang is famous for a bridge that forms the shape of a dragon, and twice weekly in a night time show the dragon head spews both fire, and water (not simultaneously, this dragon doesn't defy science). It doesn't last long, but it's neat to see! Da Nang has some other sights, including a long stretch of beach, some more bridges, and as always, temples, but our brief time there was spent at the hospital so Troy could get his fourth rabies shot (only one more to go!), and doing a lot of laundry. We stayed at a sweet and friendly home stay and found some tasty local food, including mi quang, a well known dish important to central Vietnam. It is a bowl of rice noodles, meat or tofu in a broth that is topped and infused with delicious items such as lime, mint, chilli, and as always, cilantro! (Vietnam will not be your favourite culinary country if you do not care for cilantro). Da Nang also now has the proud distinction of wearing the title of our cheapest day so far on this trip at $25.08 CAD, says Troy who has been diligently keeping track of our daily expenditures. We are getting better at this!
