Most travellers to Australia apparently bypass the country's capital, but we made an overnight stop in Canberra to break up our driving journey between Melbourne and Sydney. We had a few hours in the afternoon to visit the parliament buildings, war memorial, and make a trip up the Telstra Tower to take in some sunset views of the city. Lots of green space, and a glimpse of maybe the quietest rush hour traffic situation ever to exist in a capital city? (Surely someone from Canberra would argue this, but we are adamant!) It had a pleasant feel to it, but we felt like a few hours were definitely sufficient. As an aside - Clare has gleefully discovered that Australians really love to shorten and give nicknames to words, so she is trying to adopt them too: Brekkie (breakfast), sunnies (sunglasses), Macca's (McDonald's), arvo (afternoon), to name a few. Troy is discovering that he really loves the current Australian climate of a temperature in the high teens, low 20s with no humidity, so he better enjoy it, because the future legs of our journey until we fly back to Canada are about to get very, very hot.

vanessa leonard Have you even visited a country if you don't go to the capital city? ?
Caitlin And then when you get back here it will probably be pretty steamy too! Clare, it must be really hard for you to adopt short forms of words, lol.
Clare Hansen Ness, I overheard some very wise people the other day having this very discussion...
Clare Hansen Bobs,#hotweather4ever. Yes, adopting short forms of words is difficult, but I am trying my best.
Carrie Who knew Canberra was the capital? Yes, I’m ashamed to say
Carrie No different than the millions of tourists that travel to Toronto thinking it’s Canada’s capital I suppose. Glad to be educated today. :)
Clare Hansen Yes, Carrie, it's interesting that it is a city we never hear about back home! I think I learned about it when I was little playing Carmen Sandiego, LOL.
