We were spoiled over a 4 day Easter weekend at the house of Vanessa's parents in the little town of Myrtleford. Fed delicious home cooked meals, gifted with Easter chocolate, and provided with ample laundry opportunities gave us a true taste of Australian warmth and hospitality.
Easter is a funny experience right now because it is Fall, and Fall here yields similar produce to home, i.e. pumpkins, but there are no signs of Halloween or Christmas around the corner. And the combination of Easter bunny decor combined with the changing leaves instead of tulips and daffodils is also strange! We discovered that Victorians, like Ontarians, like to spend as much time as possible outside soaking up the good weather before it changes, so we joined in as well and got in some much needed exercise by hiking some trails. Vanessa came through on her promise of wild kangaroos, and led us up the hill just behind her house at dusk where we spotted 5 grey kangaroos scouting out dinner in the fields! Plus a little bit of bouncing once they decided they had had enough of us, and bounded away.
We also got a taste of Australia's ongoing top story across the country which is....a cricket scandal. It is full of characters and storylines, and it is a big deal!

Carrie What an amazing experience and what a complete flip, at home we would walk the hills to see the deer there you walk the hills to see Australia’s kangaroos.....very cool!
Clare Hansen It was wonderful to be out of a hotel for a few days and have the warmth and generosity of a family! Yes, kanagaroos are such a normal part of their lives here...it is a completely ordinary experience to see them around!
