After our amazing camper van experience and zipping all over Australia we were in need of some R & R and luckily Fiji was our next stop.
We arrived to a Fijian band greeting us at the airport (think: hawaii-style) on a beautiful hot sunny day which was great after the cold of south-east Oz. After a short bus ride to our hotel we headed to our Bura (bungalow) with a spring in our step. Unfortunately our first night was disrupted by the noisy road behind us (in paradise!!! what?!!!) anyway, after asking to move rooms we were upgraded for free and spent the rest of our two weeks in a lovely little cottage about 10 meters from the beautiful white sandy beach.
Bliss, we spent our days on the beach or lounging by the pool or kayaking, snorkelling, more sun-bathing and having a good ol' time Fiji-style.
One thing we learnt in Fiji is that Rugby is king and they play it everywhere. So when we heard that Samoa were playing Fiji we had to go. We were befriended by a local chap - who was as wide as he was tall - who took us under his wing as he was going to the game to and helped us all day to get to the staduium, buy tickets from the touts, get our seats, then helped us make our way home that night. Unfortunately Fiji lost but they put up a hell of a fight and it was a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium.
Being unable to stay on one of the islands as planned (the ferry times meant we couldn't we catch our next flight) we treated ourselves to a day trip on a sailing boat to Schooner Island. As soon as the rep said 'free bar all day' we were in! We had a wonderful day cruising out to the island with glass after glass of champagne and a bbq lunch. Once there we hit the water for some amazing snorkelling where we saw giant clams and little Nemos (clown fish) too. We went fishing too and Brett caught the first fish in the group so he was chuffed. Made up for not getting one in Cambodia :)
Not too much else to report on our lazy 2 week island break apart from meeting our first 'swinger' - an Australian guy who was super nice and interesting, just crazy about sharing his swinging stories even after politely changing topic loads of times. We're pretty sure he was trying to 'recruit' us!
We made it off the island swing-free and headed towards our Final Destination -----the U S of A!
