Sam's Thai Travels
Hey all,
I was reading my last entry and realised it was utterly packed wit exclamation marks (!) so i will try to refrain from now on. In the cameron highlands now (not quite like the picture but close enough) and it is so great to be away from the busy city and somewhere with some peace and quiet. It's also a lot cooler here which is great - we have to wear our jumpers in the evening!
Our last night in KL was, er, very interesting and a lot of fun. As it was nicky's b'day we all went out to a bar which had a massive paddling type pool and as a laugh (and to get free beer that was floating inside it, altho not for myself) 4 of us went in with our clothes on! Very hysterical, esp. as there were lots of random people taking pictures with their camera phones as we were fishing around for cans of beer! Hey, I'm only 18 once!
So yesterday we set off for the Cameron Highlands - highest point in malaysia - and charlie, our leader, said he had booked us a VIP coach as we were such a good group and it was nicky's b'day. However when it pitched up we fuound out that he had been sorely ripped off and instead we had to get on this rattling old bus that didn't go above 40 km (yes km not miles) and took ages to get up a tiny tiny slope! Oh and none of our bags fitted in the hold so we had to put them in the aisle and climb over them to get out! Very funny i thought. Luckily before we set off up the hills about 3 hours into the journey we changed buses to a much nicer one that would actually make it up the steep windy hlls!
The guesthouse is lovely and its all very beautiful here. Today we set off on all day tre/sightseeing tour. We went to a tea plantation although the landrover that some of us were in broke down going up a hill and we had to walk it instead until we got picked up! Apparently this one tea plantation that we went to that is owned by a scotsman harvest tea leaves that makes 820,000 cups of tea per day! Tried the tea and it was lovely. Then went on a great jungle trek and a walk to a fairly feeble waterfall but it was a good walk. Also went to a strawberry farm and had a great strawberry milkshake and to a butterfly farm - stunning butterflys and flowers although also saw scorpians and a snake eating a mouse! Tonight we are out to have a 'steamboat', a meal where i think you cook a whole medly of foods yourself, sounds great.
Tomorrow we are off to Penang on the coast of Malaysia and our last stop in Malaysia. Not sure what we'll be getting up to there.
Lots of love to you all,
Sam xxx
