We had a full day driving to and from Brugge and spending as much time in the city as the day would allow. Brugge was definitely one of my favorite aspects of the trip. This lovely old city was once defined by its canals. However, the canal access from the sea is now silted over and the city is no longer a thriving port. It is however a thr…

The drive from Amsterdam to Luxembourg took approximately 5 hours but we made several pee-pee stops (as our tour guide, Gerwin) likes to call them. We also stopped to photograph a windmill. Th…

Anne & Dwain It's all Greek to me! so sorry, couldn't resist.
Lovely pictures again. My favorite is the potted plant & staircase, but they are all lovely.
I am constantly amazed at all the BIG historical goodies that you are seeing on this trip. It is overwhelming. I know that you are really enjoying this adventure and I am sure that you are gathering moments that will be in your mind's eye for the rest of your life time.
Soak your feet!!! All that walking is good for you, right?
Party on!

Anne & Dwain OMG!!!
Wonderful photos! This really is an awesome trip you two are on. I can't believe everything you are seeing. My feet hurt just thinking about all the walking you have been doing. But all that history right in front of you....that is amazing.
I can't believe how wonderful your photos are.
Sorry, I missed commenting for a view days but I am keeping up. Thank you for explaining why you didn't get to eat any of those pastries. Now I have to look up the gluten thing. Although I think Sue Terry said something about it when she was visiting.
Travel on, you two and have a wonderful time!!!

Pompeii The Pompeii exhibit is in Houston until the end of June. I'm hoping to get down to see it before it leaves town. Of course, I'd rather see it the way that you did! The trip sounds WONDERFUL! I'm green with envy!

Pompeii Wow! Now I really want to see this in person. Great photos of the recovered ruins; the reflective marble streets are a new factoid for me.

Re: Trevi fountain They told us dropping a coin from the mouth of the pig at the market on the Ponte Vecchio would guarantee your return to Italy if it fell through the grate. Mine didn't. Who knows with legends it just might work.

Trevi fountain I thought if you threw a coin in the Trevi fountain it meant you would get to go there again one day. I threw coins in the fountain, and it hasnt worked either way so far! LOL!!

Florentine Fantasies Florence is one of my all-time favorite places, despite the crowds. Great art and wonderful food; lovely people. The David really is mind-boggling. There is a local salami made with fennel seed ('fennochio' I believe it's spelled; sounds like Pinnochio), that is wonderful.
That bridge has locks attached at one. Lovers score them with their initials and then attach them, and toss the key in the river, as a sign of undying love.

Anne & Dwain Are you exhausted yet? Sounds like you are seeing and doing a lot. I loved the pictures. My favorite was the beautiful window in Antibes, although I did think the cafe looked delightful. Of course, I am still trying to figure out WHY you didn't have any of those baked goods in Barcelona!!! I also noticed postcards in the window at the bookstore. I wanted to go inside and flip through the rack.
I hope you are finding pleasure in every day and enjoying this wonderful adventure. Thank you for taking time out to share.
Travel on and enjoy!

Anne & Dwain Looks like the first day was pretty full. The pictures that you posted are wonderful. Exactly WHY could you not get a bite of any of those baked goods?
They look delicious. The hospital pictures are really interesting. I would have never pegged those for medical buildings.
Loved your commentary and I am very excited about sharing your adventure. I laughed at the day's **factoid**. Glad that you arrived safe and sound and with all your luggage. Were you exhausted at day end?
Enjoy your trip and I will be looking for whatever messages you have a chance to leave us poor people who remain at home, working and dreaming of these beautiful days of adventure and serendipity.
Thanks for sharing,
Trudy Jayne

Hola! Oh, it all sounds really wonderful! I meant to send you a Bon Voyage email but I had my dates wrong and as usual was a day late - sigh. I can't wait to hear about the Greece and Italy legs! I'm green with envy!

You are on your way!! Hello Anne and Dwain,
I just wanted to jump in here and wish you both a wonderful trip. I sincerely hope that each day is an excellent adventure and brings great joy to you both.
Looking forward to any comments you may add as you travel, however, looks like from your itenarary information that you will be pretty busy.
Thank you for inviting me to TravelPod, Anne. I am going to try to write information about our latest trip and post pictures so I can learn what I need to know for our Nova Scotia trip in October.
Enjoy, this trip of a lifetime! Dwain, I hope your mother is doing really well and that someone can help her share ya'll's adventure through the website.

I'm no fashionista but... hey, it's not vain to care about comfort and style on your trip! You are taking a nice holiday and have every right to dress nicely. If you were planning on taking a pair of Manolo Blahniks on a white water rafting/camping trip, then you'd be vain... and deranged. :)
All the planning - sounds like you're having fun already!! What about a Pashmina that could double as head-cover (for the Vatican) and shoulder wrap for cool evenings? They fold up small and are light enough to carry in a large day bag.
You're going to have a wonderful time! I can't wait to read about it!
