After a night sleeping on the bus, we woke up to a much different landscape. In the morning, we all enjoyed a hot breakfast at the Cowboy Cafe in Dubois, Wyoming. It was nice to get off of the bus and stretch our legs for an hour. Many students enjoyed the "Double Down" breakfast of two eggs, two pancakes, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of toast and hash browns. Others ordered chocolate chip pancakes, while some took risks on plates of spicy elk or bison sausage.
After breakfast, we boarded the bus for the two hour ride into Jackson Hole. The scenery was beautiful, and we crossed over the Continental Divide. Students learned that in this spot, water will either run into the Pacific Ocean or the Mississippi River depending on where it flows. We were also able to get a great view of the Teton Mountain Range along the drive into town.
Upon arriving in Jackson Hole, we stopped at the main square for a quick picture in the rain. Afterwards, students were given a few hours to explore the town and shop. We then met up at Pinky G's Pizzeria for dinner, and had our final meeting before heading to the Teton Science School.
Upon arriving at TSS, students unpacked and got their first view of the Teton Mountain Range from campus. We then transitioned into the main lodge for orientation and gear check out.
Tonight students will be sleeping (in real beds!) within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park at TSS! Porcupine, Sleeping Indian and Eagle's Rest cabins will be in full use tonight! We will be gearing up for our first full day in the field tomorrow!
