Saturday
After a relaxing morning, we checked out, and found a few others doing the same. At breakfast i had bumped into the English guy from Quito, he was heading to a jungle tribe for the night. Once at the train station, we got on a bus to Riobamba and then got to the train station. The Nariz del Pedlo (the devils Nose) train journey only goes on certain days, and it would have been a 2 hours bus from Riobamba to Alausi where the train now starts it{s descend, so we head to another bus station and onto Alausi.
Alausi seems a very sleeply town and was not in my book. We got chatting to a women who came from there but now lived in America, and she suggested a hostel round the corner, so we headed there. We ended up in not the right one, as we did not see her one. Ours was a tiny room with 3 beds, low ceiling, and no light! We were given a candle! They said the lights would come on at 5pm. We then headed out and had a walk around town. It was very sleeply and did not take much time. On the way round, we came across a little ampi theatre, were some men were sitting, sorting something out. As we walked on, 2 men were walking the other way with a cockeral under there arms!!
Once we had a tour of the town, i sat in the main area as Adam was off getting some bread to eat, a guy cycled into town. I waved him over (the first tourist i had seem since arriving). He was from Ukrain and was cycling from Texas to Argentina! all on a push bike!! His peddle had broken and he was on the search for a new one!
After going back and watching the Mentalist on Adam{s laptop, it was about 7pm and still no lights on, we walked to the main street. There was only lights on in 2 mobile phone shops using generators! It was like a ghost town! As we walked down the street with only the light from a few cars passing, we went into and place where a few locals we eating and sat down by candle light. There was no menue, so we were given soup and popcorn (you put it in to fill out the soup) then a whole meal of beef, rice, and a chickpea type of veg. It was really good and followed by a glass of warm mango type juice. 3 quarters away through the meal, the lights came, but in onnly a few places. There had been a lot of explosions going off through out the day, so maybe this comtributed to the lights. Once back in the hostel room, and with candle light, Adam headed off to take some photo{s. Just after he got back, the couple in the room above decided to entertain themselves and decided to bang the headboard against the wall for the next hour! Not great when you are trying to read!!
