Bangkok has us now...
... for those who have seen the hangover two we are two streets away from where they took the photos of the ping pong show. Both nights we are heckled for shows on the way home - sometimes even in the morning!
But apart from the local wildlife its been an interesting few days.
We flew in from Luang Prabang ok. It was an impressive flight, when we flew over the flooded areas we saw waters up to the roofs and at times water in every direction. However when we landed it was dry and sunny.
We travlled by train and then boarded the sky train. It reminded me a lot of the futuristic cities from the movies, the railways look very futuristic but at the same time throw all the roads into permanent shadow.
After we found our hostel we headed out onto the river to get a boat into the old city. This is when we got to see the floods first hand with sandbags everywhere and the jettys on and off under water. However the centre of the city is still dry, we wandered by the palace and wat arun and wat phra. We didn't go in as we will be doing a tour on our return to Bangkok. From there we continued to photo other points of interest before boarding a local bus to Siam Paradise (the main shopping area).
So we did a bit of shopping and I managed to get the new terry pratchett book to read. We followed that off with all you can eat sushi for 6 pounds (yummy). That night we went to see the three muskateers (the only movie I've seen where you have to stand for the national anthem before it starts.) We hobbled home knackered.
The next day we slept in and then headed out on the boat to find china town. We waded off the boat and into the town. It was a crazy mess of stalls and mopeds, we wandered lost for hours but it was really interesting. Claire amused herself playing the is it a ladyboy? Game.
That evening we found our way back to central where we found the Thai equivalent of Beijing's silk market.
That night we wandered through the markets near the hostel - Claire was sneaking looks into the shows as we wandered. Apparently very grimey
