Hello everyone,
We are still in the sleepy city of Luang Prabang. We spent a few days cycling and wandering through temples, in the old city there is a temple every hundred yards or so.
Its all been pretty laid back really, we've held off moving on for a few days due to the uncertainty of Bangkoks flood defences but we have decided to bight the bullet and go tomorrow. (So it'll probably flood tonight).
Luang Prabang is the complete opposite to Vang Vieng, VV was full of 20 somethings (mostly) drinking beer at riverside bars or being spaced out in riverside bars watching friends. Whereas LP is more the place the parents go, it is full of mums and dads eating cream teas (or croissants) watching the world go by.
Its nice and easy going and there is always the option to head out on one of the million tours on offer (mostly involving kayaking, cycling, elephants or some combination of all three). We have considered it but as we are hoping to being seeing elephants for the next three weeks it seems a bit pointless so we've decided to pass on this one.
It does have one quirk Claire likes. When the shops close, the night markets opens, so most evenings before or after dinner Claire has been wandering up and down stalls looking at clothes, pictures and handy craft. (Yeah more parcels to send home - my bank account can hardly wait)
Anyway we are leaving early tomorrow as our flight is at 7am so hopefully the next blog will be from a dry Bangkok.

Steve Taylor It sounds as if you have been staying at the Asian version of Eastbourne!! Minus the perms of course.
Mum R Hope all went well with the flight and that your time with the elephants goes well. I can't wait to hear all about it. We are not far from Christmas now except it is still so mild we do not realise it is just around the corner. We are very likely to get a harsh winter which may still be here when you return. Methinks that's going to be a bit of a shock for you having followed the sun around the world for nine months!! Better buy some thermal underware in one of those markets! xxx
