What do you do when you become too complacent where you're staying in a town? You catch an express train to Pisa!! We realised 5 minutes in, but luckily it stopped 30 mins later & we could return. Oops.
Totally fell in love with Corniglia today. So different from the other towns that make up Cinque Terre. A STEEP climb up stairs to the town to be greeted by the Church bells. Surrounded by vineyard terraces, this town is the only one without a working port. It is so much quieter than the others & has a lovely feel. Found a gorgeous little wine bar & when I say little, I mean it. Built on the tiniest triangle of land with a view out to the sea. The owner gave us a detailed & knowledgeable overview of the local wines which we tried with various tastings. Absolutely gorgeous.
After walking through the town we decided to walk back to Vernazza. This area is known for its walking tracks between towns. We were stopped at the little 'station' & paid 7.5 euro for the privilege of walking to the next town. You should've seen the looks I got in my pencil skirt & sandals, when everyone else was in proper walking gear. Oh well. We made it & the views were well worth it.
Soon into the trail was a busker with accordion, who played when you were in sight & just out of sight. What an opportunist. Of course we tipped him.
Great views back to Corniglia & when we came into Vernazza. Said a prayer in both beautiful churches & later caught the train back to Monterroso.
Had a gorgeous seafood meal at Mikys, danced in the square then sat outside our hotel with a few local drinks. A really great day.
