Our next stop was the Island of Besar. Considering that it was known for family and resorts we were surprised at the simplicity. We were truly back to basics.
On our first full day on the Island of Besar, we rented a Kayaking to go a remote island nearby. This was quite the experience. When approaching the island, which took a 45 minute paddle, the waves were stronger than imagined so we capsized the Malaysian style Kayak, which is essence was a very heavy two seater canoe, then couldn't get the water out as it was too heavy and while this was all happening I fell over onto the kayak and grazed my back fallen over when capsizing it grazing my back. It then look us 20 minutes to get the heavy Kayak up onto land and another 20 to lift the kayak onto its side to drain the water.... oh and then we scooped out the sand. Once we were safely on land, Tom snorkelled whilst I swam. We decided we only wanted the kayak for 3 hours, as opposed to the day so we thought it was best to make our way back. It was a funny couple of hours but I think it's safe to say we may not kayak in the ocean again.
Our last day was spent on the beach near Perhentian Island Resort. It was a lovely day spent lying on white sand. The clouds then appeared and we made our way back to back to sort ourselves out for our departure the following morning. We had been extremely lucky with the weather at this time considering the dry season is coming to an end.
We made the most of the days we had on this island but our time spent on the other island was by far the highlight. So top tip... no matter what the internet says you definitely don't need to stay on both islands, and if you do end up this side of the world, stay on Long beach and BuBu resort.
Goodbye island living...
