Tamara's Travels
Barcelona, 22nd - 23rd July
Two nights and one full day is beautiful Barcelona!!
22nd July
On leaving Lyon we stopped at Pont du Gard - an ancient aquaduct that is no longer in use. However, many of us would have liked more time here simply to walk down to the river for a swim. We had our first introduction to the heat of the south.
On arriving at the Barcelona Contiki village, we began with a night of Tacos and Sangria, followed by chilling out on the beach right outside our cabins. Partying away till they closed the gates just before midnight.
23rd July
Today, a full day in the city of Barcelona that began with a coach tour of the city taking in the Olympic statium, Olympic diving pool, palace and some other buildings and statues. Arriving near the centre of the city we went to ... for a porcelain and leather demonstration. Spain has beautiful light leather, but today I don't seem to be in a shopping mood - lucky for my credit card.
Some of us went with Wade (tour manager) for a walking tour of the Gothic side of Barcelona - old buildings, historical points and cobblestone streets. Bec, Fiona, peter and myself meandered the street, La Rambla (main shopping/market street) checking out the markets, cafes, etc. stopping in at the food market that was alive with colorful food of all kinds. We made our way down to the Christopher Columbus statue before walking along the harbour. Having had enough sun, we made our way to the Picasso Museum, that was great to see the artworks of this famous painter.
A quick stop at the biggest department store I've seen, I finally found a UK to Europe adapter so I could charge my camera batteries (oops).
We went straight from here to a dinner of tapas and paella, which I have to say was extremely disappointing, before a fun flaminco dancing performance. From here we had the opportunity to check out the Barcelona nightlife. I opted out of this due to a severe headache :( Next time
