Tamara's Travels
Italy (Pisa, Florence), 26th July - 27th July
26th July
Leaving France we stopped at Fragonard Parfumeur for a tour of their perfume factory, with a spot of shopping.
Pisa - a short stop here for the touristy photo opportunities that only the Leaning Tower of Pisa can offer.
Onto Florence and the best accomodation of the trip. A quite night in Florence at BarGarta, and an opportunity to briefly see Florence at night. Took some cool photos across the river of castles/houses at night
27th July
Leonardo's Leatherworks for a leather demonstration where they gave us tips on how to know if a product is really leather or not. And I must say, it's quite difficult.
After a short time to wander and have some lunch we meet the group at Neptunes fountain in Piasso della Signoria, for our guided tour. This took us to Palazzo Vecchio (the town hall) and David's replica along with other statues; Ponte Vecchio where the bridge is lined with Gold and Silver jewellery shops; down to some street markets; Cathedral, Baptistery and Giotto's Tower made of pink, green and white marble.
We finished the tour here, grabbed a gelato as you do in Italy, before heading on to a museum to see Michelangelo's statue of David. Lucky for Daniela and I we jumped the queue by joining Dave, Marlin, Andrew (Thanks again guys). Awesome, just awesome to see the statue of David, really can't explain, but it does make all the other replica's, trinket copies look really pathetic. Something about seeing the real thing I guess.
Back at the campsite, I had a quick sunbake by the pool, before going with the whole group to a view point for a group photo. Dinner at a pasta resaturant with loads of food, then headed off with Fiona and Jill to Piazza Amunziata for a free music night - nothing like enjoying the culture while the rest of the group went off to a club.
