Sunday 16th Jan - A Day to follow my intuition
A shower sitting down was unusual to say the least, but it was great to wash my hair. There was no hotel restaurant, nor did it have any laundry facilities - I'd have to hand wash some things to get me through until I got home.
I spent the day walking around Helsinki, going with the flow and not referring to the map much. I found the Helsinki Cathedral and when I entered (after reading a sign outside that informed us it would be closed to tourist this afternoon for a funeral) a beautiful sound filled the air. The pipe organ was being played with a guy singing in a lovely tenor voice. It was such a beautiful moment to be wrapped in the amazing sound of the pipe organ accompanied by voice. I soaked up the atmosphere and acknowledged following my intuition on where to walk this morning. I hadn't been feeling all that bright today and really was ready to be heading home, so the prospect of 4 days here wasn't lighting me up. The time sitting listening gave me the opportunity to tap-into my feeling and work out what I really wanted to do today.
I left the cathedral and went to the Tourist Info Centre that I'd walked passed earlier. I enquired about the Audio Bus tour and found that it left once a day at 11am and thus I'd missed todays tour. It was suggested I do the Bus Tour tomorrow, as it being Monday most museums would be closed. Bummer, I thought today was Monday.
I got directions to the photography museum at the 'Cable Factory' where an exhibition of a famous Finnish black and white photographer was being displayed - just what I wanted to do - perfect. So I caught the Metro subway and walked down the road to the museum. I was doing well with direction today.
Oh it was amazing. I so enjoy photography and was really happy that I had again listened to myself and come. I thoroughly enjoyed whiling away the hours looking at the many, many black and white photos of Pentti Sammallahti. His photos are of ordinary daily life, some in collections. I found some amazing, others were just ok.
Afterwards I headed back to my hotel, hand-washed some clothes to get me through and commenced writing in my journal. Oh My Gosh, I'm writing a novel! However, I am enjoying writing.
