Tamara's Travels
Vienna, 1st - 2nd August
1st August
Goodbye gorgeous, romantic Venice, Hello Austria.
After a day of travelling, playing games on the bus and visiting Hansel and Gretel’s house, we arrived in the tree-lined Vienna. A small number of people from the bus went into the city of Vienna for the performance of the Vienna Residence Orchestra. It was beautiful, Mozart and Strauss played in a gorgeous setting.
Then we got a sneaky ride on the other tour bus to the Open Air exhibition, where we had a few minutes to enjoy the ‘Earth from Air’ exhibition. We stood around the photo of Venice and got all excited as we pointed out where we’d been. Pretty cool.
2nd August
Vienna, beautiful Vienna, looks similar to Melbourne with all the tree lined streets and parks. Again a walking tour of Vienna with Wade our Tour manager, points out places of historical significance and interest. We just miss seeing some of the Spanish horses and to top it off the Spanish Riding School and their museum is closed for the summer. Never mind. Admiring the streets, the architecture and the parks Daniela, Nicole and I explored and relaxed. The Contiki bus picked us up from the city and took us to the Schnaps (yes this is the correct spelling) museum, where we were entertained and informed about the making of Schnaps. Then the best bit, the tasting. Small shot glasses of the different types of Schnaps they make, yummm. I didn’t go silly, tasting or buying, but did enjoy it.
Having opted out of the optional dinner, I went with a small group of friends back into the city for a night of culture at the Food and Music festival. Unfortunately the music on the screen didn’t start til after 9pm, which was when we had to be heading back to the pickup point. However, the food, the atmosphere was stunning – couldn’t have asked for a better night.
