Hello everyone! I have no idea how many of you actually read this thing!)The last few days have been so different it's unreal!! A couple of days ago we were in sianoukville which was amazing- beautiful beaches- minus the lady stroking my legs saying- ooooo you've got hairy legs... thanks a lot lady. We went snorkelling which was amazing! and then the day after we went to this fabulous private beach at this 4* hotel... yes I am backpacking, but a bit of luxury is always needed. This beach was paradise!! Whtie sands, blue sea ( minus the jelly fish) and dead quite, no lady touching my legs there!! I did get sunburnt and now have the most hilarious tanlines ever! lines going all over the shop- but was worth it.
We left for the Capital Phnom Penh at 7am the next day, 4 hour bus journey to the busy busy busy capital. Yesterday wehad a bit of a disasterous day- walking to the royal palace, when we got there we found out it shut at 4pm, and we got there for 4:02. So then we decided to walk to the night makret, when we got there the tuk tuk drivers (who I am slowly beginning to heart) informed us that the night market was only there at the weekend. So we decided to rock to the shopping centre, which I am pretty sure just revolves itself around fakes. Fake DVDS galore, some of the comments on these dvds are so funny! one of them was for dirty sexy money... normal dvds have comments such as 'great show' or excellent writing' this one had 'When are the next three episodes coming?'... got to love the cambodians! Oh and also found series 1 -13 of ER, which I got very excited about, until I turned it over and it had word for word a translatuion from japanese to english and it made no sense whatsoever- was a great laugh to read though!
Everyone has gone to the boxing today, but after our day at the genocide museum, I really didn't feel up to going. And also I hate boxing too. Savath didn't really sell it too me saying there was a lot of violence! We only have one more day left with Savath until we get a new leader for Vietnam, we are all praying he will be as great as savath has been! I lvoe the group here- we all get along so well, sadly two of our group are leaving tomorrow two- but Alisha's mum (all fully aware you lot have no idea who alisha is) is joining us, and probably one more person (although we aren't too sure about that!)
The genocide museum and the killing fields were today and my god it was emotional. It was tough seeing all the violence the khmer regime had put it's innocent people and intellectuals through. Shocking, btu I am glad I went- it just shows how much the Cambodians had been through (it only happened in the 1970s) yet they are still so lovely and happy. I have heard from people that Vietnamese aren't so friendly- but the next part of the trip is gonna be good for me ( i am hoping) dissertation wise so we will see how it goes. We have a long time there! I don't want to go on about the museum too much, because in all honesty there isn't a lot to say.We were all pretty much silent the whole way round because it was so upsetting seeing the harrowing images of the victims the regime had tortured and killed.
Afterwards we visited the Russian Market which I adored! I am being strong and not buying too many pashminas- i also think the shopoholic is fizzling out in me! The market was awesome though- there was so much styuff there to see, and really pretty things too!
Anyways- I had better get off now and start packing my stuff- we have to leave at 6am tomorrow (cry face) off to Vietnam and Saigon next!
Missing you all tons and loves to all
