We flew from London to Paris and boarded the biggest airplane I've EVER seen!! It was like 3 stories high! Because it was so big, my window seat had a curved wall which meant I could curl up into a ball and I got a bit of sleep despite my hate for overnight flights! We landed early morning in Johannesburg where we met Uncle Peter and his wife Aunty Pauline and family for lunch! It was great meeting them, and despite the obvious differences between Ivor and Peter, I still found it funny!! (I felt like I already knew him a bit). Aunty Pauline told me lots of stories about her adopted son that she met in Australia last year, which was lovely. We then got the Gautrain, which Garth was very excited about, to the bus station. Being Caucasian, we were certainly an extreme minority, and being surrounded by a lot of poverty, Garth became very protective of me. I went to the public toilet on my own, and I think Garth nearly died of a heart attack because I took longer than 20 seconds! Once on the bus it was quite pleasant (better than the public busses in South America) and we settled in with our coke and crisps and tried to get some sleep for the 10 hour ride! We eventually arrived in Cradock at about 3am in the morning where Everall and Bronwyn were eagerly waiting for us! It was great to see them - but after 48 hours of solid traveling and 2 nights without sleep, I was rather tired! Their little white car didn't have any seats in the back, but they had put some foam down for us to sit on - and our bags in the boot made a good back rest! The back also didn't have any windows - so it was a rather surreal 1 hour drive to Hofmeyr and their home. On the way, we stopped in the middle of no where and looked at the stars - which were amazing! I was surprised at how cold it was! Arriving at their home - we had a quick tour and it is huge!!!! Really really big!!! It obviously needed some work, but all the right ingredients were there! Bronwyn had clearly spent a lot of time preparing our room. She had made some lovely window blinds and a runner for the bed. She had arranged lots of old photos of Garth, newspaper cuttings, his school uniform and school reports on the dressing table for me to see and even had kept some of the freebee's from their UK flights for us! We quickly went to sleep!
