Happy Easter Sunday!!!
The weather today was sunny and HOT!! We were all given a small marshmallow chocolate bunny at breakfast!
About 10 of us met at the bar at 9.45 to go to church! We had a 15 minute walk over the hill to the other side of the island. The path became quite muddy and the combination of flip flops, mud and down hill meant I had a classy slip down off the path into some trees. I was ok though and no one laughed too much!
The village was really beautiful in a bay with a sandy beach. We could see from their metal homes that they are still quite poor. They had a large grass area in the middle that lead up to the church building. We were all dripping with sweat and happy to be inside out of the sun.
The church service was all in Fijian apart from a few minutes where we were welcomed into their Methodist church from any denomination and country. I was sad to not understand the talk but the choir was amazing! When they first sang it gave me shivers down my spine and was very humbling. (it brought back memories for me in the church in Venda, South Africa)
We shook hands with a few locals after the service and I took a few photos. We finally filled up our first 32GB memory card!!
The walk back was quicker and I managed not to slip over but it was more hot and we jumped straight into the pool as soon as we were back!
We enjoyed lunch and a lazy afternoon. We ate with an Aussie couple and 4 young Taiwanese people who met working in australia. They were mice d sweet and one girl showed us underwater footage taken on her gopro which made us quite envious!
That evening was movie night and we were given a choice of 3 films and the majority vote went to Life of Pi (I knew it world be a 20th century fox film!!). They erected a large screen one side of the swimming pool with the projector on the other side. We all lay on the sun loungers and were given icecream and popcorn! It was great watching the film under the stars, hearing the waves crash against the shore and the fresh breeze in our hair. It was good because we hadn't seen the film before especially as it was set on the pacific!! One of my favourite nights dine leaving the UK!
