So... got on the bus from Sihanoukville... first was a sleeper bus to out of town, then a "VVIP" bus from there. No major issues thus far... except we realised the bus was going to go back via Phnom Penh... where we'd been four days earlier!!!
Anyway, got to Phnom Penh, where we changed about half midnight to another bus... didn't look as comfortable but as Tom "decisions" Lambert strode towards a seat with extra big leg room we thought things weren't that bad!!! How wrong we were! It soon became apparent that the reason this seat was unoccupied was that it was only half attached to the bus floor!! Therefore it rocked back and forth and groaned horrendously each time it did this... not ideal on a night bus!! I bailed, found another seat and laughed continuously as Tom struggled further... before he too found another seat!! Then settled down to a very upright nights sleep (or intermittant sleep!). Eventually made the Vietnam border around 8am (a bloody nightmare!) and continued on towards Saigon.
Arrived in Saigon about 11am... found some digs and then went out exploring the city! Decided we liked Vietnam better than Cambodia as there were less tuk tuk/cyclo fellas constantly bothering you asking if you wanted a lift!!! That said, we got collared into a tour on a cyclo by these two fellas, who proceded to show us around a fair part of the city... before then charging us an arm and a leg... blagging b******s!!!
We then went to find the bar we planned to watch the Wales vs England match (at 2.30am over here!) but arrived to find a notice saying that they would be shutting at 10pm that night for New Year celebrations... b*****! Nonetheless, we returned there after dinner hoping they would stay open (they didn't) before walking around the city centre. New Year celebrations were in full swing... amazingly bright and colourful... unfortunately due to an admin error did not take camera out but never mind... also got dragged into some locals photos! They'll be keepers kids!!
Next day got up early and set off on a trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels about 30k outside of Saigon... had a tour round them and went down inside the tunnels. Good job they had widened them for the tourists... as I felt a weeee bit claustrophobic!! Headed back to the city and booked a flight up to Danang for the following day.. dirt cheap, and far easier than a sleeper bus (trains aren't running because of... you guessed it... New Bloody Year!!!).
Went out in the evening to watch the rugby (Italy v Ireland)... found a cool sports bar, had dinner and watched the rugby... what could be better?!!!
