Hello from Hong Kong!!!
We have had a mad couple of days here on the island. Day one we caught the tram to the top of Victoria Peak. The trouble was once we got to the top we couldn't see a thing as it was soo foggy! It was still pretty cool to get the tram up there though!
The next day we gorged ourselves on dim sum in the oldest tea house in Hong Kong where the waiting staff were the grumpiest we have ever met but we sat on a table with a really nice local man who showed us what we needed to dip in what and how to eat it all. He also joked to the waiter that it was all a bit complicated for us. Which, in fairness, it probably was!!
We also caught the Star Ferry over to Kowloon and walked around for hours exploring the street markets selling all sorts from clothes to flowers to goldfish and birds!!! We stayed on Kowloon until the sun went down and saw the light show over the harbour which was impressive.
Yesterday we took a voyage on tram, ferry and bus to Lan Tau island where (quote) "the worlds largest bronze outdoor seated Buddha" lives!!! And we have to admit, it was a very big Buddha!
Today we went to Sha Tin to hit the racetrack, with $50 in hand (about 5 quid) we were gonna show these Chinese how the British gamble. Sensibly. And a pound at a time.... And we won! 4.5 pounds. So we left smug, and only 50 pence down. They seriously love their racing here, and it was a cracking day out. On the way back we stopped at Hong Kong Park, their answer to Central Park in New York, and watched about 50 weddings!
Apparently, people in Hong Kong work six days a week. Only Sunday is considered the 'weekend'. Back home, we struggle to work 3 days a week. (sorry Karen and Sophie...Only joking!)
Flying to Sydney tomorrow, and sorry there are no photo's of Hong Kong (or Tim's slightly gingery beard) yet, as this internet cafe is rubbish! But hope you are all well, and we'll be in touch again when we've reached grand old Oz!
Take care,
Tim and Amanda xxx
