Ok i should finally start this thing. We are now in Chaing Mai which is in northern thailand. We spent our first few days in the hectic city of Bangkok. The things that i will remember most about the city is the thai people and their extreme friendlyness. This was sometimes a promblem as i did not know weather they were trying to sell me something or just being friendly. We were countinly asked the questions of Where are you from? where are going? How are you getting there? and the most common tuk tuk? Also we were countinouly directed to the grand palace the place that all tourist had to go. We didnt go.
The attractions we did see in Bangkok were Wat po. The oldest temple in Bangkok with a giant, and i mean giant!, reclining budha. We also journed to the floating markets. THis was quite a journey as the driver was travelling at epic speed at beeping his horn if any car was in his way. We would dart in out of the traffic on several occasions nearly hitting something while sarah was holding on so tightly. The market itself was good apart from being deserted by our tour guide. There we got to try a lot of fruit. The bannans were delcious. They are tiny and quite straight. The weridest fruit was this furry purple thing.
We stayed in Khao San Rd. THe crazy backpacker street that put dunedin drinking to shame. I saw people drinking whisky at 7 in the morning. The drinking never stops. We have only drunk on one occasion. the two beers got me quite typsy. I am going to have cocktails today to celebrate my birthday.
The werdiest thing i have eaten so far is a bread float sundae from KFC of all places. This had soggy bread covered in red stuff with soft serve then choclote chips and cocca spread over it. The top was nice the rest was not.
The train ride to Chiang Mai has been one of my highlights so far. I loved being rocked to sleep on my top bunk. And during the day watching the thai jungle speed past.
We have seen two movies. I know its exessive. but the new twlight movie came out and charlotte is obessed and had to see it one the day it came out. The adds were so funny. It was confussing at first when everyone started standing up before the movie started. This was to watch a short clips of the King accompained by chessy music. By the second movie we felt like a pro and knew just when to stand up.
Well I better go celebrate. Hopefully charlotte and sarah will buy me a birthday drink or i could hit on fellow backpackers.
