Sob sob it's off home tomorrow. We're looking forward to our own beds but also could happily do another month or so in Thailand.
Unofficial holiday awards are as follows.....
Most popular comment to Emerson from Thai people:
Heeyyy!! Harry Potter!!!
Most popular comment to Milla from Thai people:
Are you boy? Or girl?
Most culturally offensive gag:
Telling the kids the dog food in the 7/11 was canned dog.
Best pub name:
Cabbages & Condoms
Best potential money making opportunity:
Charging 50 baht for every person who wanted their photo taken with Milla. If she had long blonde hair instead of short I reckon we could have pushed it to 100 baht per pic.
Best rip-off award:
Dry cleaning in Bangkok. That lady will be recounting my stupidity for years to come. Full credit to her!
Ah we'll miss that award:
A bar that you swim up to.
Biggest concentration of loud Aussies:
Our hotel in Phuket. Possibly more Aussies here than in Australia at the moment.
It's a small world after all award:
- Andrew seeing our Dorset St neighbour at Singapore airport.
- 2 doors down from us at Phuket resort are a couple from Chelsea Ave in Richmond
Would happily live there & hopefully will one day award:
Chiang Mai
Joke's on me award:
Making fun of all the Aussies who get their hair braided in Phuket then quicker than you can say Princess Leia my massage lady plaits my hair before I have the chance to say Hell No. So keeping it though.
Things we never got tired of seeing:
- whole families on motor bikes
- bamboo scaffolding around the high rise building sites
- crazy power lines
- enormous trucks with pink streamers, neon lighting, floral painting. The more effeminate the greater the status
Stuff that got normal but freaked us at first:
- Crazy driving
- Hanging out with elephants
She's come a long way award:
Milla has made an art form out of avoiding gross toilets in NZ. Nothing prepped her for Thailand's toilets & I know the squat toilet was a particular highlight for her.
It's a miracle award:
2 & 1/2 weeks of often crazy and mad situations & family harmony fairly well maintained!

Aunty Arnya and Uncle Dayne Sounds like you guys have had an awesome time - we have LOVED reading about your adventures, very funny and well done to the kids - looks like you coped very well with such a different culture/environment!
