So after the hectic city of Hanoi it was nice to chill out on the train overnight to Hue, well, that was until we discovered we were not alone in the cabin - There was a mouse running around!!! Oh my goodness i have never wrapped myself so tightly up in a sleeping bag, even around my head!! Managed to get some sleep but was glad when we arrived at our destination!! Once all checked into the hotel and a quick freshen up we headed out for a motorbike tour of Hue...

So after our homestay experience it was an early start to head towards the Laos/Vietnam boarder. Crossing the boarder was fairly quick and easy. Eventually after a long days drive we arrived in Ninh Binh - where we stayed over night before continuing our bus journey to Halong Bay. Didn't get much of a chance to explore Ninh Binh but it was very noisy with all the traffic and beeping of horns and the streets very dirty - i couldn't wait to leave and disappointe...

After a 45 minute flight which hardly seemed the effort though much more comfortable than on a bus for hours, we arrived in the Capital city Vientiane. Lots of traffic and a general city feel- was glad we where only staying 2 days!! We caught a local boat owned by a family from Huay Xia which is right by the border of laos to Pakbeng. It was a great day just chilling out reading books, playing cards and enjoying the scenery of the Mekong river which in parts was spectacular. We stopped along the way too explore a local village which was great and the people that lived there were very friendly the children were very shy though.
