The street outside our hotel. Just love all the goings on. It all seems so alive.
We left Paris just after lunch and arrived in Reims by VFT less than an hour later. We could see our hotel from the railway station!!! It's right in the thick of the action.
Reims is overlooked by the massive Notre Dame gothic cathedral. (Yes, another ABC ie. 'another bloody cathedral') Each cathedral has a point of difference and this one's a beauty. There has been a cathedral on the site since 401, however the building of this one commenced in 1211. Lots of French kings were crowned there. It was badly burnt in WWI. In 1962 President de Gaulle and Chancellor Adenauer celebrated the Franco/German reconciliation. Then in 1886 Pope John Paul II visited.
Many of Reims' streets are without vehicular traffic which is just great for meandering tourists like us.
We bought a bottle of champagne and some cheese to go with the olives we already had and sat in the courtyard of the hotel drinking to my special South Australian friend Bev who died yesterday.
Will wander out onto the streets for more food later.
