Sunday 17th January 2010
We were picked up this morning from Nelson at around 8am destination Westport. Before we left Nelson we had a big argument we don’t usually tell you about these but this one is so funny we had to. Suzie was in the shower and she chucked the shampoo out the window by accident, I went blastic because times are hard and it’s a good shampoo and then she broke the new deodorant so we had real row!!! Suzie then climbed on the roof to retrieve the shampoo so we got on the bus not talking. We drove for a short time to a place call Richmond for breakfast and to pick up supplies for our picnic lunch. The McDonalds breakfast we had here went down very well, we also spoke to Dad and Mel whilst we were here.
We left Richmond and headed towards the Nelson Lakes National park, first stop here was the stunning Lake Rotoiti. We choose to go for the hour long circular coastal walk which we were assured was very easy (We were lied to glad I changed my mind about doing it in flip flops). It was very muddy as they had, had very heavy rain the night before and I managed to slip so ended up with mud all up my legs and arms I was not a happy girl, Suzie thought it was very funny as it’s usually her not me who falls. The views were stunning though so it was worth the mud!!!
Once we had returned from the walk some of the people off the bus decided to go for a swim in the lake I decided it was far too cold but Suzie decided to brave it and go for a swim. She lasted about 5 minutes just enough time to have some pictures taken as proof she’d been in it was FREEZING I was very glad I didn’t go in. We had a quick lunch here before getting back on the bus to go to Murchinson for a quick stop were we had a coffee before getting back on the bus to drive to the Buller River driving along the Buller gorge on the way.
We arrived at the Buller River at around 3pm where we had decided to do jet boating with Buller adventure tours. We got all kitted out with lovely yellow fisherman trousers, rain jackets, hats and sunglasses see facebook pictures!!! We then got into the boat Suzie was having a blonde day today and ask the man “If the Boat could go on the road as well as in the water he just looked at her and said “No love I’m just about to attach it to my 4 wheel drive now”. He then started telling us about other stupid questions he’d been asked in his years these included:
1. How many sunsets do you get here on a good day?
2. Can Horses see?
We then went done to the river which took about 15 minutes, we first went up the river quite slowly taking pictures and admiring the scenery and then on the way back the fun really started with the driver doing spins and driving the boat very fast it was great fun. Once back at the office we all had a hot drink before he droves us to Westport and dropped us off at the hostel. Westport is a strange little place which the Kiwi’s nick name the town of the inbreeds!!!
We got checked in and there are advantages of checking in late we got a triple room instead of a dorm which was great. Once we were sorted we went to a local restaurant with Melissa a Dutch girl we had met on the bus for our first roast dinner in 10 months it was heaven!! After we had eaten a few of the lads off the bus had come down for a drink so we joined them and went to a few other places and before we knew it was 2am whoops so much for our quite Sunday night!!!
