Monday 18th January 2010

Early start this morning again with the hangovers from hell!!! We left Westport at around 8.30am destination Lake Maninapua. After a short drive we stopped at cape Foulwind and Tauranga Bay here we did the coastal walk stopping at one of New Zealand's largest seal colonies. Today we also stopped to do two more walks one at the Truman track and the second one at the Punakaiki Pancake rocks and blowholes which are suppose to resemble giant piles of neatly stacked pancakes personally we couldn't see it ourselves but each to there own. After we had done the walk here we went to one of the café's for lunch which was very expensive and not very nice!!!

From here we drove to Greymouth to shop for our fancy dress outfits for tonight's P party at the poo pub. First stop was to the charity shop Where Suzie brought a lovely granny nighty for her outfit as she was going as a patient. We then got dropped off in town where I got my bits and bobs for my outfit as I was going as a Panther. Before we got back on the bus we nipped to the supermarket to stock up for the next few days.

We then drove to Lake Mahinapua where we were staying at the Lake Mahinapua Hotel with the legendry Les who is New Zealand's oldest landlord at 84. When we say Hotel think of the worst hotel you can imagine and this hotel will be what springs to mind. Lake Mahinapua consists of this hotel, a lake and a beach and that is it. Once we had checked in we had a quick bite to eat and then we decided to go for a walk to the lake but we only made it to the bar where we were persuaded by the others to have a drink so we never even saw the lake it was happy hour after all!!

Tonight we all had dinner together at 6.30pm it was a steak dinner with Les's famous venison stew which was very good. After dinner we all went to get ready for the P party (Everyone had to dress up as something beginning with the letter P) at the Poo pub (This is what the Kiwi experience drivers call Les's pub). It was a really good drunken night everyone made a real effort some of the outfits we had where:

After the pub we all went down to the beach for a bonfire which was really good and then we had to walk back in the pitch dark which was interesting with lots of falls on the way back between the whole group!!! A very entertaining night had by all.
