We made it to France!
We boarded the ferry around 845 pm and went straight to our cabin which had bunk beds! There was a big group of teenagers aboard and they seemed to be everywhere so aside from going to an exterior observation space as we were leaving Ireland we stayed in out cabin the whole time. We slept in one bed and it was surprisingly comfortable. We even slept in until 8 am. Breakfast and lunch were sandwiches in our cabin and in between the two we read our books and napped. Around 315 pm there was an announcement that we would arrive in Cherbourg soon so we packed up our stuff, returned the keys and stood by a window watching as we arrived in France. Customs was easy to clear and since we weren't sure of where the train station was we decided to take a cab. 15 minutes later we were there and had two hours to kill until our train. Luckily they had a little waiting area and a convenience store so we had chairs and snacks. Finally our train arrived and we left for bayeux. While we do miss having the car it was nice to just sit and watch the countryside go by. Despite the forecast calling for rain, fog and clouds, as we neared Cherbourg we had sun and clear skies. It's strange to think that almost 70 years ago this same countryside was war torn and full of soldiers. Today it's green and lovely, bearing no mark of the damage.
We arrived in bayeux at 715 and had no idea where the b&b was so we took a cab, and good thing too since we are a fair bit outside of the proper town here. It is worth it though, the place is beautiful and quiet.
Since we are so far out, dinner was a 15 minute walk to the French equivalent of the keg (quite literally our only option. This was still outside of the town) but the stroll was lovely after being cooped up all day. The rest of the night we are devoting to planning our trip to Juno beach tomorrow, something we have both been looking forward to since we started planning this whole trip.
