Since we had nothing really planned for today we gave ourselves the morning to wake up with no alarm and take it slow and easy. We woke up around 845 and between lounging in bed, showers and packing we didn't leave the room until a little bit after 10. We checked out but the hotel agreed to store our bags for the day, and we set out to find some food. We found a small bakery near the cathedral and bought pastries and juice, and sat outside in the sunshine while eating. Once we were done we walked a block over to the cathedral, which I had been wanting to see since I first learned about it in grade 10. A whopping ten years ago. It really was a dream come true and I was absolutely ecstatic the whole time. By 1145 I had looked at every nook and cranny and we were ready to leave. We walked back to our hotel which was conveniently three blocks away from the cathedral and a block away from the train station. So we grabbed our bags and headed towards the station. Lunch was sandwiches and fanta by the station, and at 115 we boarded our train for Paris!
The ride was an hour and 15 minutes, and since we arrived at the north of the city we had our first experience taking the metro to our hotel, which is right in front of a metro station. 45 minutes later we arrived and settled into a very soft bed in a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
By the time we were settled in and thinking of food it was almost 5 so we decided to ask the concierge for recommendations. We settled on a fondue restaurant with amazing reviews that was outside the tourist area. Unfortunately it was on the other side of the city, so back in the metro we went for another 40 minute ride. It was well worth it, we've never had a cheese fondue like this before. After literally scraping the bottom of the cheese pot, we got our meat platter. I could not finish, but Dan ate every piece of meat. Feeling thoroughly satisfied, we headed back to the metro to return to the hotel. We originally were going to see the city and the monuments lit up at night but between the constant rain and the very full bellies, we decided to head straight back.
Early night for us so we can be well rested for our very busy last day!
