After a morning in KL which we used to explore the area around the twin towers we left the heat of the lowlands behind and headed for the Cameron Highlands. The road was long, steep in places and very twisty. Susan had taken a travel sickness pill and spent most of the journey unconcious.
It is very much cooler and wetter up here at 1500m - thunder was rolling around the valleys this evening and it is pouring with rain tonight. We were really cold in bed last night - long Johns on tonight. This morning we visited a tea plantation and then set out on a six hour trek through the rain forest to seek out the worlds largest flower which was rumoured to be in bloom. The going was really tough, quite steep in places and very muddy underfoot. We started off picking our way across streams by jumping from boulder to boulder but eventually we were just trudging through the water. After 3.5 hours walking we eventually found the flower which was in fact quite spectacular. Some smart Alec then had to point out that technically it wasn't a flower at all but a fungus. All that effort for a fungus.
Out of the rain forest again the natives were giving us instruction on firing blowpipes. After a bit of practice, I now recon that I could drop a monkey at 20 paces. Have laid a trail of pies across the garden to the lawn outside our window and am now lying in wait.
Back down to the beaches of Penang tomorrow.
