Ok so i didnt get back to the net to update some more so prepare urseleves for another MASSIVE update, here goes:
So we had our last night with the guys, a lovely meal out and then we return to our hostel and we were all sooo shattered we went to bed relatively early, tho by the time i'd packed everything it was pretty much normal bedtime.
The next day we had to get up early as we were been picked up at 7.30, so we got everything together and dragged the guys out of bed so they could come say goodbye. We walked down top where we were meant to be ebing picked up and waited for almost an hour until the bus finally turned up at 8.20, i was by this point rather annoyed as we had wasted almost an hour just waiting by the side of the road. We hopped on the bus after a tearful goodbye (well i was tearful) and found that the only 2 seat 2gether were at the back of the bus, so i had to walk down the whole bus trying nt to cry :( nt fun
Then it was an hours or so drive to this place where we went for a quick walk through some old mining caves and we werent allowed to use cameras or torchess to lite our way for part of it and it was pitch black you couldnt even see ur hand infront of u!
Then we drove to Rotorua, which smelt of sulphur as they had hot pools there. we checked in to our hostel then had to get ready to go white water rafting. Rafting was soo much fun we got to go down a 7m waterfall and then when we got to the bottom we got stuck and the water was pounding down on us and our guide tried to tip our raft over but didnt manage (check out photos on facebook). After rafting we went for a quick wonder round Rotorua which was quite small, we found a Nando's and had tea there :D then went back to our room and sat and tried to catch up with our journals!
The next day we woke up and it was raining :( we set off to Waitomo and in the afternoon went caving. The water was really cold even tho we had wetsuits on! we had rubber rings so could sit and float down part of the rivers within the caves and we also got to jump off waterfalls into our rubber tubes :) afterwards we got soup and a bagel :) then went back to our hostel and had an early night.
The next day was lovely adn sunny, we went for a quick walk, tho some of us lost the others and got slightly confused to where we were going, but eventually we found everyone and got to see into some of the massive caves and a beautiful river at the bottom. Then we went to see rabbits getting a well needed hair cut, it was rather funny. Then we went to pick up the group that had been caving that morning adn set off for Taupo. Just as we were coming into Taupo we stopped at some amazing waterfalls/rapids which were flowing so fast the water was just white. Then once in our hostel (where we got upgraded to a twin ensuite with tv as they ran out of dorms :D) we went for a walk down to the lake which is bigger than Singapore! and then wondered round town quickly. In the evening there was a pub quiz, but i had a headache so had an early night and watched top gear :D while mak went to quiz with poeple from our bus.
The following day we got up before the sun had even risen and prepared ourselves for an 18km walk known as the Tongariro Corssing. It was a full day of walking and lovely and sunny. We walked to the bottom of the volcano that is mount doom in the lord of the rings films :D and got to walk by the beautiful emerald lakes. There was one really steep bit where the rocks beneath our feet were just sliding with us and Mak did to lovely graceful falls as we went down! We reached the forest at the end of the walk and thought that we would make it back intime for the 3.30 bus back, but unfortunately we got to the carpark 2mins too late and had to wait another hour before we could get the next bus back to Taupo, but it was nice to be able to just sit down on the grass and give our feet a rest! That evening we went to pizza hut with a group from the our bus and then went back to the hostel adn watched everyones skydiving dvds from that morning, it looked soo cool.
The next day we were back on the bus and heading to River Valley, which was a 'unique' place to stay. It was like a massive barn in the middle of no-where by a river and at the bottom of a massive mountain. We were in a massive dorm of 16 which was just like one massive bunk bed with matresses right next to each other! In the evening we had a roast which was lovely and managed to sneak teh leftover chicken that we couldnt finish into a bag so we could have it for lunch the next day. After dinnner we played lots of games and there was a lovely fire to keep us warm :)
The following day we werent leaving til after lunch as some p[eopl were out doing activities. So we sat around reading and sat by the river, which was freezing. There was also a little pulley thing across the river which we went across. Then after lunch we head to Wellington, the captial of NZ. We didnt arrive there til the eve and so didnt get to see much of wellington. That night we partied away as we were leaving many of our new found friends in wellington as some of us headed to the south island the next day, it was sad to say goodbye, tho we may catch up with some of them again in queenstown, fingers crossed.
I'll leave it there for now and shall teel you about the South Island in my next updat which will hopefully nt be too far away. hope u have enjoyed so far!
