We left the Bunya Mountains via a steep and winding road (past the sign saying not suitable for vans or trailers) and drove towards Bundaberg. Our lunch stop at Childers was rained out as a large tropical downpour passed through and the clouds continued to look ominous as we approached Bundaberg. After picking up some supplies in town we headed through Bundaberg and past all the flood devastated buildings to Moore Park where Al and Craig live in a beautiful Queenslander on a lovely bushy block.
Although we'd caught up only a few months ago in Melbourne, it was great to see Al and Craig and their gorgeous boys, Will and Stanley who are both such characters. The weather continued to be overcast and showery however we all had a great time over the next three days. Neve and Gemma loved having two little boys to look after and Lachie loved having access to a tv! Neve felt this may be the best place we stay for the whole trip as we moved out of the van and into a house for a few days!
The next day we had an enjoyable first morning taking the kids to an animal farm then playing at the beach in the afternoon. Even though it was stormy, the kids still had fun in the water.
On our second day Al, Neve and I had a few hours wandering around the shops in Bundaberg and finished off with a great lunch at a funky little cafe. Toby and Craig took the other kids for a bike ride and then they played on the rope swing in the backyard. Unfortunately Gem came off and whacked her knee on her eye as she hit the ground, poor Gem always seems to get hurt! She's now the proud owner of a nasty black eye but won't go back on the swing!
On our final day we went to Elliot Heads which is a beach to the south of Bundaberg. The kids chased soldier crabs and played in the surf then we had fish n chips in the park. Another fine day was had by all!
