Six Months Baby
We arrived in Alice Spring after a number of days flying around from Melborne to Sydney then Sydney to Alice. Once we arrived in Alice we checked in at our hostel, Heavitree, are really just fell asleep as it had been along journey and we had to be up at 5am the next morning for our trip.
The next morning we got picked up by our guide, pebbles and then we made our way to pick everyone else up. THen on to our 5 hour journey to Ulraru (ayers rock). Our first stop was the Kings Canyon , luck for us it was open as it had been closed due to the weather. KC was amazing, walking up Heart Attack hill to reach the top of the canyon and to see the Garden of Eden, which was a small canyon, with loads of Palm trees and a lake at the end, like an Oasis really in the middle of a big rock. We also found out there had been a earthquake about 60 years ago which had carved a new face in the canyon. We also found out the colour of the rocks was due to bacteria in the air turning the dust red and its actually their poo, interesting ay. Once we got back down, it was off to Ayers Rock, well camp for the night. After another long journey we eventually arrived just a couple of mile away from ayers rock, at camp where we go to see Ayers Rock at sunset which was pretty cool along with loads of other people, then it was time to sit around the camp fire and drink and socialise as it was so cold like england in mid winter and your sit there in shorts and a t-shirt, freezing.
It didnt get much better as in the morning it was even colder. However we did get to walk around Ayers Rock which is a long walk and see the sun rise over the Rock, pretty cool but freezing still. When you walk around it you see signs saying that this part of the rock was scarid to the Aboriginals and you couldnt take photos or walk on it. But they didnt say why. Sadly we were not allowed to walk up the rock as it was to windy and to dark. But our guide was well against it anyway as again the aboriginals see it as a sacride place where their ancesters lived or died. But to see the rock in really life is so different than crappy pictures, it was amazing, just to see this huge rock in the middle of no where and i mean no where, it was quite weird really.
Once we finished our loonnnggg walk around the Rock it was off to Kata Turja, another formation of rocks about a 30 minute drive through the park. They looked like scoops of ice cream sticking out of the ground, they were also pretty cool, we got to walk up a huge gorde into the formation. I think i would of prefered to say at the Rock a bit longer and climb it but they were still good. After our little adventure up the rocks it was sadly time to head back home as it took about 5 hours to ALice Springs. A once in a life time experience, another one to tick of my list, we are not doing to bad are we really.
